Twitter has announced on Friday that they are hitting the pause button on the verification program. Twitter has restarted accepting public applications for verification in May 2021. It seems like they have hit the wall after they have given verification for a few fake profiles.
They said via tweet “We’ve temporarily hit pause on rolling out access to apply for verification so we can make improvements to the application and review process. For those who have been waiting, we know this may be disappointing. We want to get things right, and appreciate your patience.”
Since they resumed accepting verification applications they received tons of requests and they have been informed that they have accepted a small number of verifications from fake accounts (An accurate number has not been disclosed yet) before permanently suspending the accounts and removing their verified badges, Twitter also informed that gap in training and procedure resulted in the events.
